The South Indian film industry is reeling from a massive loss following the sudden passing of legendary producer R.B. Choudary. The Super Good Films founder died in a tragic car accident on Tuesday while returning home from a relative’s wedding. As actors and filmmakers from both Tollywood and Kollywood mourn his death, many are looking back at his incredible legacy, especially his role in shaping the career of Thalapathy Vijay.

Today, Vijay is an undisputed box-office king. Whenever his new movie hits theaters, fans turn it into a festival, and his massive opening numbers prove his star power. But his early days in the industry were far from easy. Even though he worked under the direction of his father, S.A. Chandrasekhar, Vijay struggled to find his footing and faced a string of early flops.

That all changed when R.B. Choudary stepped in.

The Turning Point

Choudary trusted director Vikraman’s script and launched Poove Unakkaga in 1996. Until then, Vijay only had a limited youth fanbase. This movie completely flipped his image, drawing family audiences into the theaters. The story was so strong that it sparked immediate remakes across the country. Jagapathi Babu starred in the Telugu version Subhakankshalu (1997), Kannada audiences saw it as Ee Hrudaya Ninagagi (1997), and Anil Kapoor took it to Hindi as Badhaai Ho Badhaai (2002).

Following that initial breakthrough, almost every collaboration between Vijay and Super Good Films shook the box office. When director Ezhil made Thulladha Manamum Thullum in 1999, it brought out a completely different side of Vijay’s acting skills. His emotional performance as a man longing for his visually impaired girlfriend moved audiences to tears. The movie became a sensation in Kollywood, and Nagarjuna later recreated that magic in Telugu with the massive hit Nuvvu Vastavani (2000).

By 2005, Vijay needed to shift from a family favorite to a full-blown mass action hero. Super Good Films backed him once again with Thirupaachi. The movie rewrote box office records and completely transformed Vijay’s on-screen avatar. Super Good Films even produced the Telugu remake themselves, bringing Pawan Kalyan on board for Annavaram.

R.B. Choudary always seemed to know exactly what kind of story Vijay needed at every stage of his career. He laid a rock-solid foundation for the massive stardom the actor enjoys today. His sudden death leaves a void in the industry that won’t be easily filled, and fans will always remember him as the producer who gave them the Thalapathy they know today.
