Reddit is rolling out video support in post comments, allowing users to record video messages or attach other videos to share their views within discussion threads.
Reddit previously supported text, images and GIFs in comments, but is now extending that functionality to include video. The feature is currently available only in public suitable-for-work communities where moderators have enabled video comments.
Reddit says all video comments will be processed by security systems before appearing on the platform. The company also notes that videos will not autoplay and will respect users’ sound settings.
To add a video, users click the camera icon in the comment field, where they can upload an existing file or record a new video.
The feature is expected to be particularly popular during interactive Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions, where participants typically record a single video response covering several user questions. Video comments are likely to make this format more direct, enabling faster, question-by-question responses in real time.
