Real life stories inspiring cinema is nothing new. But the story behind Ram Charan’s Peddi is now grabbing attention after director Buchi Babu Sana revealed the real inspiration behind the lead character.
Buchi Babu said a youngster named Peddi Raju from his village became the base for the role. He revealed that the boy used to work as a daily wage labourer but had exceptional talent in cricket and basketball.
The director recalled that locals would even stop Peddi Raju from going to work just to make him play matches. Buchi Babu said they used to pay him money because he could single handedly help teams win games.
Buchi Babu stated that every time he saw Peddi Raju, he felt there was a strong cinematic character in him. That thought eventually became the foundation for Peddi and the entire story was built around that inspiration.
The Uppena director also revealed that he completed the script sitting inside a temple and in Hyderabad ORR after getting encouragement from Sukumar. He prayed that Ram Charan should accept the story without asking for changes and surprisingly that is exactly what happened.
Buchi Babu further said Ram Charan will be seen as a youngster working in a jaggery factory in the film. He sounded extremely confident about the actor’s performance and claimed it would be difficult for him to write another character as powerful as Peddi again.
Bankrolled by Vriddhi Cinemas with music by AR Rahman, Peddi is set to hit the big screens on June 4, with premieres scheduled for June 3.
