Aditya Dhar’s film ‘Dhurandhar’, starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and others, was released in theatres on December 5, and has been making waves at the Indian box office. The movie has been receiving good reviews, and has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark within a week! However, the film has been banned from release in all Gulf countries, reports Bollywood Hungama. While the team of Dhurandhar tried to secure a release in the Gulf markets, they were reportedly denied clearance due to concerns over the film’s political positioning.

Dhurandhar Banned In Gulf Countries?

Bollywood Hungama quoted a source saying, “Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE have not released Dhurandhar. There were apprehensions that this would happen as the film is perceived as an ‘anti-Pakistan film’. Also, in the past, such films have failed to procure a release in this region. Yet, the team of Dhurandhar made an attempt, but sadly, all the countries did not approve of the theme of the film. This is why Dhurandhar hasn’t been released in any of the Gulf countries.” The report further states that Dhurandhar managed to collect Rs  44.08 crore in 4 days overseas, however, the numbers could have been more if the film has found a release in the Gulf countries or the UAE /GCC belt.

Earlier, films such as Sky Force, The Diplomat, Article 370, Tiger 3, and The Kashmir Files also faced similar restrictions across parts of the Middle East. Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter was initially banned in all the Gulf countries except the UAE. However, a day later, even the UAE suspended its release in its territory. The makers of the film submitted the re-edited version of the film to the UAE after removing certain scenes and dialogues. However, the revised version of Fighter was rejected too.

The film had previously collected Rs 29.20 crore on Thursday, signaling a strong and consistent performance throughout the week.

Dhurandhar follows Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajay Sanyal, played by R. Madhavan, who leads a high-stakes mission to dismantle a terror network in Pakistan. Ranveer Singh portrays a Punjabi youth recruited from prison and trained to infiltrate Karachi’s criminal underworld.

Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna and R. Madhavan. Meanwhile, the makers confirmed that the sequel, Dhurandhar 2, will hit cinemas on March 19, 2026. It will lock horns at the box office with Yash starrer Toxic, which is also slated to release on the same day.
