In a stunning fusion of British couture and Indian heritage, Radhika Ambani dazzles at the Venice Biennale in a custom Erdem gown handcrafted from Swadesh weaves

Radhika Ambani’s Custom Swadesh x Erdem Ensemble Shines At The 61st Venice Biennale
The floating city of Venice recently became the backdrop for a significant moment in Indian cultural history. At the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the Ambani family gathered to celebrate the opening of the National Pavilion of India. The pavilion, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Culture and the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), serves as a global stage for India’s artistic legacy.
At the event, Radhika Ambani chose to attend in an ensemble that was as much a piece of art as the exhibits themselves. Styled by the powerhouse trio of Rhea Kapoor, Sanya Kapoor, and Shereen, Radhika’s look was a look that mixed the best of East and West.
She wore a custom-designed ensemble by the London-based brand Erdem. Known for their romantic, floral-heavy silhouettes, Erdem created a structure that combined European couture sensibilities with the grandeur of Indian textiles. In a significant nod to the NMACC’s mission of preserving local craft, the fabric for the dress was weaved by Swadesh Online. The textile featured a rich, metallic gold brocade with intricate floral motifs, showcasing the peerless skill of Indian weavers on an international platform.
The outfit featured an off-the-shoulder draped corset with a voluminous, floor-sweeping cape. The bodice featured a bow at the front as well. She paired the top with straight beige pants. To complement the heavy brocade of the Erdem custom piece, Radhika opted for statement jewellery that echoed the gold theme. She wore oversized, intricate gold earrings with floral filigree work and central green gemstones adding a pop of colour to the monochromatic gold palette.
A massive, multi-petalled gold cocktail ring adorned her finger, ensuring that even her gestures were framed by the excellence of Indian craftsmanship. By wearing a British designer’s silhouette crafted from Indian-weaved fabric, Radhika mirrored the very essence of the event: the National Pavilion of India as a space where Indian roots meet global perspectives.
