Madhavan spoke about why he never cheated on wife Sarita, recalled Mani Ratnam’s marriage advice and said he was once asked to hide his marriage.

Madhavan opened up about staying loyal to wife Sarita, recalled Mani Ratnam’s relationship advice and revealed he was once advised not to announce that he was married.
Madhavan, who recently celebrated his 27th wedding anniversary with wife Sarita, once opened up about why staying loyal in marriage has never felt difficult for him. The actor said that despite working with several “extremely attractive” actresses over the years, he has always been clear about the life and relationship he values most.
Madhavan On Staying Loyal To Wife Sarita
Speaking to ETimes, Madhavan said loyalty comes naturally to him and even described it as a family trait.
He said, “I think to be loyal is a family trait. My entire family till the end of their lives remained so loyal to Jamshedji Tata that we actually had a photo of his, along with all the Gods with the mala. So honestly, I will have to go out of my way to not be loyal.”
The actor then jokingly called himself a “darpok Madrasi middle-class man” and said that while he does find attractive women attractive, he prefers the comfort and honesty of going back home to his wife.
He shared, “While I am extremely attracted to attractive girls, at the end of the day, I balance off going back home and cuddling my wife as opposed to giving an excuse on why I am not there.”
Madhavan also revealed that Sarita handles his finances, and because of that, she has always had access to his phone and accounts.
Mani Ratnam’s Relationship Advice To Madhavan
Madhavan made his acting debut with Mani Ratnam’s 2000 Tamil romantic drama Alai Payuthey. He later went on to work with the filmmaker in films such as Kannathil Muthamittal, Aayutha Ezhuthu and Guru.
During the interview, Madhavan recalled a piece of relationship advice Mani Ratnam once gave him, which stayed with him over the years.
He said, “Mani Ratnam gave me an advice on how not to have to test relationships. He said, when there is something going good with a relationship, don’t keep testing it to see how much she loves you. Just let it be. Sometimes testing is the thing that spoils everything.”
The actor said the filmmaker’s advice helped him understand the importance of not unnecessarily testing a strong relationship, especially after he became a major star in Tamil cinema.
Madhavan Says He Was Advised Not To Reveal He Was Married
Madhavan also recalled that after becoming popular, some well-wishers advised him not to publicly announce that he was married. However, he said he did the opposite and made sure people knew about Sarita.
He shared, “I would open all my girl fan mail along with Sarita. I would insist on taking her for any exotic outdoor shoots, not because I wanted her to know that I am loyal, but I didn’t want to test myself.”
Madhavan and Sarita tied the knot on June 6, 1999. The couple has a son, Vedaant Madhavan.
