A 29-year-old Punjabi singer who was kidnapped at gunpoint last week was found dead in the Neelon Canal on Tuesday, police said.
The victim, Inder Kaur alias Yashinder Kaur, had left home on May 13 to buy groceries in her white Ford Figo and never returned. Her body was recovered from the canal six days later. According to her family, Inder was being pressured to marry a Moga resident, Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha.
She refused after learning he was already married with children. The two had become friends on Instagram three years ago. On the night of May 13, Sukhwinder, his father Pritam Singh, friend Karamjit Singh, and other unidentified men allegedly abducted Inder at gunpoint, her brother Jotinder Singh told police.
ACP Inderjit Singh said preliminary probe shows Sukhwinder shot Inder dead before dumping her body and car into the canal. Her car was found in Neelon canal a few days ago. The body has been sent to Samrala Civil Hospital for postmortem.
Police said two accused have already been arrested. Sukhwinder Singh fled to Canada after the crime. Inder’s parents and two brothers live abroad. One brother lives in Jamalpur, Ludhiana.
