  • Princess Beatrice and Prince Eugenie attended their cousin Peter Phillips’s wedding to Harriet Sperling on June 6.

  • Despite their warm welcome at the wedding, the sisters are reportedly in the eye of an “unraveling storm,” according to a royal expert.

  • Beatrice and Eugenie have received heavy criticism since their father, ex-Prince Andrew, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie made a rare public appearance on Saturday. Following their father ex-Prince Andrew’s arrest in February, the royal sisters have received heavy public scrutiny for their continued ties to their parents’ legal and social controversies, as well as building tension with the royal family.

On June 6, the sisters were two of approximately 150 guests at their cousin Peter Phillips’s wedding to Harriet Sperling at All Saints Church in Kemble, England. The outing marked the sisters’ first public appearance at a royal family event since Christmas Day at Sandringham.

“This was a private royal event, therefore it was natural that Beatrice and Eugenie attended and were warmly welcomed,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News of the sisters’ appearance at the private event. Despite the warm welcome from Prince William, Princess Kate, and numerous other royal attendees, Fitzwilliams believes Beatrice and Eugenie are still in hot water with the royal family. “However, their problem remains that they are still in the eye of an unraveling storm, however unfairly, because of their parents, who are notorious,” he continued.

In the months since, their father was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. After nearly 12 hours of questioning, Andrew was released from a Norfolk police station “under investigation.” Following the investigation into the former Duke of York, offenses have since expanded to include possible sexual crimes, per the BBC.

Eugenie and Beatrice’s mother, former Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson has also endured her share of public scrutiny after her name appeared alongside Andrew’s in the January 30 tranche of the Epstein files released by the U.S. Department of Justice. Ferguson was last seen publicly in December and her whereabouts remain unknown. Though, she was spotted at a resort in the Austrian Alps in April.

Neither Ferguson nor Andrew were invited to the royal wedding.

Amid this controversy, Eugenie and Beatrice have maintained close personal connections with both their parents, ultimately keeping the princesses deeply connected to the severe and escalating public scrutiny surrounding their parents’ scandals. The princesses have also drawn backlash over reports that they benefit from rent-free royal housing arrangements despite not performing royal duties.

Besides the wedding, the sisters have kept a relatively low profile in recent months, with the exception of Beatrice’s announcement in May that she’s expecting her third child with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
