Patrick Dorgu suggests Chelsea had a player who was even better than Mo Salah

Man United star Patrick Dorgu has recently made a claim that’s sure to divide opinion, and it relates to Mo Salah and a Chelsea great.

Salah is Liverpool’s most accomplished player of the Premier League era, and considered by many as the best African to play in the English top flight.

Having spent two years at Stamford Bridge, Salah never made it as a star at Chelsea,

Dorgu, who plays for the Denmark national team but has family roots in Nigeria, was recently sitting down with ESPN to answer some tough football questions, where he makes it clear that there is a former Blue who he gives the edge to.

Patrick Dorgu has Didier Drogba as an all-time African great with Mo Salah snubbed

Considered by many to be the best African of all time, Didier Drogba is a hero of many modern players.

Growing up, Antoine Semenyo idolised Drogba at Chelsea, and Sadio Mane’s all-time AFCON five-a-side team also included the Ivorian while leaving his ex-Liverpool teammate out as well.

Chelsea could still sign a new attacker after cooling their interest in Antoine Semenyo. Who would you target, or are you content with Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens?

Dorgu is no different. Asked for his list of greats, he told ESPN: “Didier Drogba, Yaya [Toure], Jay-Jay [Okocha] and [Samuel] Eto’o.”

Eto’o is another former Chelsea man, though his time at Stamford Bridge was negligible compared to what he accomplished in Europe.

As for Drogba, he was Chelsea’s talisman throughout their best years and is one of the great big-game players we have seen.

You can choose one Chelsea legend to play in Enzo Maresca’s team today. Who are you picking? 🤔

Salah not a hero the way Drogba is

It seems to be a recurring theme of players not putting Salah in the conversation with some of the great African stars.

Maybe it’s the fact that he hasn’t enjoyed the same success with Egypt, but Drogba hasn’t won AFCON either. Regardless, the Premier League’s fourth-highest goalscorer of all time has been getting snubbed plenty as of late.

In Dorgu’s case, it could be down to the bitter rivalry between his club and Salah’s, or just that he grew up watching those other legends.

No one can complain too much about Drogba being rated so highly. He is a player many of the greats mention as one of their toughest opponents. Chelsea have yet to bring in a number nine of his quality in the decade since he left the club.
