Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi, Mudassar Aziz, Bhushan Kumar, Juno Chopra and Shiv Chanana attended the trailer launch of Pati Patni Aur Woh Do at Mumbai’s Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Juno Chopra remembered Akshay Kumar and explained how the latter played a big role in the making of Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019).

Juno Chopra said, “Akshay Kumar was the first person who told me to make Pati Patni Aur Woh. He remarked, ‘Aadmiyon ka zamana chala gaya hai. Ab auraton ka zamana hai’!” In a lighter vein, Ayushmann added, “Juno should do a role reversal and make Patni Pati Aur Woh Do, featuring one wife and three men!”
Mudassar Aziz was asked about changing times and whether it’s difficult to make a comic caper in the present day and age. The director said, “Comedy is indeed evolving and at the same time, our responsibilities have also increased as filmmakers. I’ll answer your question in two parts. Firstly, credit goes to Bhushan, Shiv and Juno. They don’t believe in herd mentality. They are not someone who would ask, ‘Tum kuch action kyun nahin leke aate?’. It is the studio’s duty to respect the genre. Kudos to the makers for it.”
He continued, “To answer your question, yes, cinema needs to change as per the changing times. Today if I inform about a natural calamity, everyone will collectively feel pain. But when it comes to humour, the tastes differ. Some like slapstick, while some prefer subtle. Some have an appetite for dark humour, while a section of moviegoers gets upset by it. Hence, a director faces a lot of challenges when he attempts comedy.”
He added, “I realized that if I get a representative from each stratum of society in my story, then I may be able to cater to a large number of people. The four main characters in my film are a forest officer, a go-getter journalist, a woman who’s fighting the society for her share of love and a woman from a minority community who has achieved a lot without any partner.”
Pati Patni Aur Woh Do releases in cinemas on May 15.
