New Orleans Jazz Fest announces Thursday lineup changes | Louisiana Festivals


Editor’s note: The festival shut down around 3:30 p.m. Thursday as a strong storm cell was headed toward the area, organizers said. 

As a storm front moves slowly toward New Orleans, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has announced several changes to its Thursday schedule.

The Festival Stage headliner and jam band favorite Widespread panic moved up to 2 p.m., and Gentilly Stage headliner Lake Street Dive moved to 2:20 p.m. 

All stages are scheduled to wrap performances by around 5 p.m. 

Congo Stage headliner Leela James is canceled. 

Lettuce, a Massachusetts jazz-funk band with a jam following, was moved to 12:15 p.m. also at the Festival Stage. 

New Orleans indie pop band Sweet Crude announced their set at the Gentilly was canceled.

Canceled at the Festival Stage are The Iceman Special and Zigaboo Modeliste Funk Revue.

Thursday, often known as Locals Thursday, is the first day of the festival’s second weekend. 

Forecasters with the National Weather Service said the New Orleans area will see scattered thunderstorms in the late morning through the afternoon Thursday. Rainfall totals are expected to reach 1-3 inches by Saturday. 

The front is forecast to pass by late Saturday and cool things off. Sunday should be dry with an enjoyable highs in the low 70s.
