Hyundai has launched the all-new i20 in Brazil with comprehensive updates to the design and equipment. In Hyundai’s Brazil lineup, the new i20 will be positioned between the HB20 and Creta. 4th-gen i20 is not intended to replace the HB20. Instead, it will target buyers who want a more striking presence and access to advanced tech features.
4th-gen Hyundai i20 – What’s new?
Exterior design of the 4th-gen i20 has undergone a major refresh. It reflects the brand’s latest design philosophy, as seen with its newer models. Key highlights include distinctive H-styled LED DRLs, full-width light bar and rectangular headlamps. While the hexagonal grille seems familiar, it has sharper corners and gets new detailing. The bonnet is also new, featuring a more clutter-free aesthetic.
Side profile has circular wheel arches, conventional door handles, prominent cladding and 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. Window frames have sharper corners, reducing the rounded appearance and giving the vehicle a more striking presence. Another notable design element is the sharply rising window line, which flows into the roof towards the rear.
At the rear, the new i20 gets edgy tail lamps in connected format. Dimensionally, the new i20 is 4,130 mm long and 1,780 mm wide. It has a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. Boot space is 346 litres, which is among the best in this class and well-suited for family trips.
Interior updates
Inside, the new i20 features a fresh and spacious cabin loaded with advanced tech features. The new dashboard gets dual 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster. All-new i20 has an advanced multimedia system with embedded connectivity via a 5G chip. Hyundai is offering OTA updates with the new i20, which is a first for a Hyundai model in Brazil.
4th-gen i20 gets a new steering wheel with Hyundai’s quad dot logo. It has mounted controls and paddle shifters. Other highlights include Bluelink connectivity suite, USB chargers at front and rear and an emergency SOS button. The hatch has wireless phone charger, electronic parking brake and physical buttons for the air conditioning.
Safety kit includes a comprehensive range of ADAS features via Hyundai SmartSense. ADAS features include blind spot collision avoidance assist, forward collision avoidance assist, lane keeping and lane following assist, leading vehicle departure alert and intelligent speed limit assist. Standard safety features include 6 airbags, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill start assist control and tyre pressure monitoring system.
New K3 Platform
Hyundai has also confirmed that the next-generation i20 is based on its new third-generation K3 platform. Details shared during the Brazil unveiling highlight a highly advanced modular architecture designed to improve structural rigidity, crash protection and overall refinement.
The platform will to utilize a greater proportion of high-strength steel, while also enhancing cabin packaging, ride comfort and NVH levels. In addition, the K3 architecture has been developed to support modern powertrain technologies, including turbocharged and hybrid powertrains, helping future-proof the next-generation i20 for global markets.
New i20 – Performance
In Brazil, the new i20 is being offered with a 1.0-litre TGDI flex three-cylinder engine with direct injection. It generates 115 hp and 172 Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. In tests, the top speed of the new i20 is rated at 184 km/h. It can achieve 0 to 100 km/h in 11.7 seconds.
