Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 is tipped to bring a slimmer design, upgraded cameras, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, and a redesigned hinge, according to recent leaks.
Samsung is expected to unveil its next-generation foldables soon, according to a recent leak. Ahead of the rumoured launch, a range of new details about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Wide have surfaced online.
A report circulating on the internet claims that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The foldable is said to weigh around 210g and measure approximately 4.1 mm thick when unfolded.
The same report also suggests that the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will retain the same 200MP primary rear camera, while upgrading the ultrawide sensor to 50MP. The selfie cameras are tipped to remain unchanged and will continue to use 10MP sensors. Additionally, the device is rumoured to be equipped with a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging support.
The device is also said to feature a dual rear camera setup comprising a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP ultrawide lens. Other rumoured specifications include a 4,800mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging and a weight of around 200g.
All-New Hinge Mechanism
The tipster also claims that the S Pen will not be making a comeback, despite earlier rumours. Beyond that, the leaks suggest that the next-generation device will be “a lot” thinner and lighter than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Additionally, the tipster has claimed that Samsung has tweaked the hinge so the phone snaps fully open more easily—similar to some Chinese foldables—while adopting a more squared-off design.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 4.2mm when unfolded, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to be around 3.9mm when unfolded. This is a very small difference, which is unlikely to be noticeably visible even when the device is folded. It certainly does not amount to a significant or “a lot” of change.
