Milos Kerkez said that he is going to miss Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah following the Egyptian’s departure at the end of the season.

Kerkez has struck up a good relationship with Salah since his arrival from Bournemouth last summer, and the pair are part of a wholesome friendship trio with Dominik Szoboszlai.

However, that triumvirate will be broken up this summer when Salah departs just one year into the two-year contract extension he signed last summer. It has been a difficult season for Salah, who has not always been guaranteed of a place in Liverpool’s starting line-up under Arne Slot – although he was finding some goal-scoring form before injury struck last weekend.

It remains unclear whether Salah will return before the end of the season, but when all is said and done, whether Salah plays again before leaving will be a mere footnote in the 33-year-olds’s legendary Liverpool career.

Kerkez admitted that it will be hard to see Salah go. “We are close – me, him [Salah] and Dom [Szoboszlai],” Kerkez said.

“He accepted me really well, like everyone did, but he took me more under the wing and helped me out in many ways. Also hanging out and doing stuff.

“I’m really thankful to him for that. It’s going to be one month more and for sure I’m going to miss him a lot.”

As for Kerkez, it has been a transitional season for him since his move from the South Coast, at times dropping out of the team to make way for Reds stalwart Andy Robertson.

Like Salah, Robertson will leave at the end of the season, and the expectation from the Reds will be for Kerkez to really step up next term.

“I think in general, for me it has been a growing season, learning a lot of new things and adapting,” Kerkez said as he assessed his first year on Merseyside.

“Maybe the first two or three months were a bit tougher in terms of playing style and everything that was new to me, playing a lot of games and I needed to adapt also my legs for it, to be honest, and physical stuff.

“But after that, when you take some time and then adapt, it gets better and better always. I’m happy now that I’ve found my place more and I can play more consistently – and consistent performances also.”
