Meet the 10 southern Maine boys tennis players to watch in 2026

Arya Bhatia, Cheverus sophomore: In his first varsity season, Bhatia went 12-5 as the Stags’ top singles player and reached the singles tournament quarterfinals. He has the quickness to cover the court and has one of the state’s hardest forehands.

Vivaan Churiwalla, Deering junior: Churiwalla impressed in his sophomore year, reaching the round of 16 before falling to Alberto Cutone of Kennebunk. He’s the eighth-ranked boys tennis player in the state, according to UTR rankings, and is showing more power in his game.

Alberto Cutone, Kennebunk senior: Cutone, who went 12-2 last year, returns to the top spot on the Rams’ singles ladder. He reached the semifinals of the state singles tournament for the second straight year and has the second-highest UTR rating of any Maine high school boys player.

James Hartnett, Yarmouth junior: Hartnett was the second singles player for the Class B state champions last spring and will be their No. 1 this year. He won his matches for the Clippers in the regional semis and final and in the state final, all in straight sets.

Takaya Masuda, Thornton Academy junior: Masuda flourished as Thornton’s No. 3 last year, going 13-1 and reaching the round of 16 in the singles tournament. He’ll rise to No. 2 this year and, along with Andriy Vykhodtsev, give the Trojans an enviable 1-2 punch.

Adrian Mazurenko, Falmouth sophomore: Mazurenko proved as a freshman that he’s a star in the making. He went undefeated in regular-season matches, earned the No. 10 seed in the singles tournament and reached the round of 16. He’ll play second singles.

Auggie Meserve, Brunswick sophomore: Meserve reached the round of 32 as a freshman and played as the No. 1 for a Dragons team that reached the Class A North semifinals. Brunswick is deep this year, and he’ll lead a talented group.

Matt Morneault, Falmouth junior: Morneault dominated last year as the No. 1 for the Class A champions and took the state singles title. He went undefeated during the season, owns a hard serve, and can effortlessly handle even the hardest groundstrokes.

Joey Scordino, Camden Hills sophomore: Scordino showed what he could do as a freshman, reaching the round of 16 in the singles tournament. He and Oscar Barnes (round of 32) will lead a Windjammers team vying for another Class A North title.

Andriy Vykhodtsev, Thornton Academy junior: After playing in the second singles spot as a sophomore, Vykhodtsev rises to the top spot for one of Class A’s top challengers. He reached the round of 16 of the singles tournament last year.
