Manchester City make enquiry about signing Chelsea player Enzo Maresca loved
Manchester City could be about to get their revenge on Chelsea for Cole Palmer.
Palmer was one of the most promising young players in City’s squad, but Chelsea were able to convince the attacking midfielder to join them back in the 2023 summer transfer window.
The Citizens are now thought to be eyeing one of their Premier League rivals’ most exciting talents.
On a free transfer, he has to be considered!
Manchester City make Josh Acheampong enquiry
Josh Acheampong has barely played for Chelsea this season, and it looks like the young defender has had enough.
Journalist Simon Phillips recently stated that Acheampong is unhappy right now because of his lack of game time.
Phillips has since claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that several top clubs have made enquiries about signing the 19-year-old, including City.
In total, Acheampong has only made seven starts in the Premier League this term. He featured in Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday, but his appearance came from off the bench.
Enzo Maresca often overlooked the right-back and centre-back, and Liam Rosenior did pretty much the same thing before being sacked.
What Enzo Maresca said about Josh Acheampong
Despite not giving him too many starting opportunities, Maresca claimed to be a big admirer of Acheampong. In fact, the former Chelsea boss claimed that he loved him.
Speaking about Acheampong and Tyrique George after one game last season, Maresca said via The Athletic: “He [George] was quite good first half, taking responsibility, second half in the middle probably he was a bit better.
“But the one that I fell in love with is Josh Acheampong because for me potentially he can be a fantastic player, a top player for this club, and for football in general.”
While Acheampong will appreciate the kind words, what he really wants is game time. Unfortunately for the Chelsea academy product, he is just not getting that at Stamford Bridge right now.
Therefore, it would not be a shock if he asked to leave the club this summer and pushed for a move to City or another outfit.
Chelsea fans would be disappointed, but they would surely understand Acheampong’s position. He wants to play and is not getting the opportunity to, while Chelsea’s other defenders fail to deliver each week and retain their places.
