Sheffield Wednesday are in talks to keep Manchester United youngster Harry Amass at the club until the end of the season. The 18-year-old’s spell with the struggling Championship club is currently set to end following the clash against QPR at Loftus Road on Sunday lunchtime.

The on-loan star has been a shining light under difficult circumstances at Hillsborough. Amass has racked up 20 appearances for the Owls and barely missed a minute playing for boss Henrik Pedersen.

The young star’s impressive performances have ensured that more clubs have taken an interest in his situation, with Wednesday’s initial deal with United only having days left to run. Stoke and Millwall have been named as two of 12 clubs who have expressed an interest in landing Amass in January.

But the player has been very happy at Wednesday and United may decide not to disrupt his momentum mid-campaign. Wednesday boss Pedersen has confirmed that talks are underway for the Yorkshire club’s November player of the month award winner. Communication is taking place between Wednesday, United and Amass’ representative.

“There is a dialogue between the clubs and the agent, so I really hope that we can finalise something soon,” Pedersen said on Friday. “Of course, we would love to keep him.

“He has done really, really well. He’s 18-years-old, played so many games, which level he has played [at]. Of course the young guy has a lot to learn, but how he has played for us, it has been great.”

The Owls are in a difficult position to undertake transfer business as they remain in administration and await a takeover. The club are in talks with the English Football League to establish what is possible in the coming weeks.

Currently, Wednesday are anticipated to be restricted to free agents and loan deals that do not require a fee. The club are operating under a fee restriction ban and are not allowed to sign any players for a fee until the end of the 2027 winter transfer window.

“I know there’s a dialogue between the club and EFL now,” Pedersen “I hope that we get an answer very, very soon, and hopefully we can do some things so we can get some support to the players. At the minute there’s a dialogue, but we need some clarity about what we can do.”
