Man Utd keeper Radek Vitek named Bristol’s ‘Player of the Year’

Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek pulled off a clean sweep as Bristol City handed out their end-of-the-season awards.

The 22-year-old started his career in his home country of the Czech Republic at the academy of Olomouc. In 2020, MUFC scouts noticed his talent, urging the club to snap up his services.

Vitek initially joined Man Utd’s U18 side, and then went on to represent the U21s. In January 2024, he was sent on loan to Accrington, before spending the 2024/25 campaign in Austria with Blau Weiss Linz. Last summer, the custodian was loaned out to Bristol City.

Bristol City Acknowledge Radek Vitek’s exploits

The Man Utd loanee cemented himself as a regular starter for Bristol since his arrival. Vitek was lauded for his ‘outrageous’ saves, which earned several points for the Robins.

The club ended the campaign in a mild 12th place, but the shot-stopper can certainly hold his head high after delivering the goods at Ashton Gate, where he’ll be remembered fondly.

On Saturday afternoon, Bristol granted their end-of-the-season awards, and Vitek was the ultimate winner.

The Man Utd goalkeeper was named the club’s Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and Players’ Player of the Year.

Should Radek Vitek finally earn a first-team opportunity at Man Utd?

Luckily for Man Utd, they finally found a solution for their goalkeeping woes in the shape of Senne Lammens, who has been enjoying a superb first campaign at Carrington.

However, every top club needs a solid second-choice cutodian, something that MUFC lack at the moment.

Altay Bayindir is Lammens’ understudy, but he didn’t cover himself in glory when Ruben Amorim had given him the nod at the start of the season. The Turkish international is expected to leave the club in the summer, with Besiktas reportedly keen to bring him back to Istanbul.

On the other hand, Andre Onana has been enjoying a largely positive campaign at Trabzonspor, who might try to secure his services on a permanent basis. Whether the Cameroonian ends up staying at the Turkish club remains unclear, but in either case, Man Utd fans want nothing to do with the 30-year-old, whose howlers cost them dearly between 2023 and 2025.

Therefore, Vitek could be a timely addition for the first team, especially with Michael Carrick (who remains the favourite for the permanent role) planning to bolster the squad with academy products.

The Czech can be a solid back-up for Lammens in a long campaign that should feature Champions League football and hopefully long runs in the domestic cups.

The young goalkeeper might aspire for a more prominent role at a new club, but Jason Wilcox and Co. would do well to convince him to remain at Carrington for at least one year and fight for playing time.
