Last summer Manchester United signed three attackers and one goalkeeper, listed below in order of arrival.

• Benjamin Sesko
• Senne Lammens

All four have played their part in Manchester United’s turnaround in form from 15th to currently third in the table, with Champions League qualification almost secured.

Ineos had a 100 per cent hit rate on the quartet, an impressive feat considering United’s mixed fortunes in the transfer market over the years.

Senne Lammens named signing of the season

Manchester United’s deadline day addition of goalkeeper Senne Lammens has been a transformational buy, and he was the clear winner of the reader vote.

The latest voting breakdown is below…

• Lammens: 66 per cent
• Cunha: 18.5 per cent
• Mbeumo: 13 per cent
• Sesko: 2.5 per cent

Lammens was the cheapest of the quartet, costing United only £18 million from Royal Antwerp. He has been a clear upgrade on Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

It is not just Lammens’ goalkeeping that has struck a chord with fans, it is his calm presence that translates to the defenders around him.

Lammens earned Peter Schmeichel comparisons from fans on his debut, while his calm aura of authority is reminiscent of Edwin van der Sar.

He has been an ever-present since making his debut, and has now been called up to the Belgium international squad ahead of the World Cup.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have all made sizeable contributions through the season, but Lammens has been the most consistent, and is fully deserving of the fan vote.
