Manchester United are ready to keep heeding the advice of their stars in reinforcing the squad this summer. And Bruno Fernandes could be next to inform the club of their second signing after Casemiro’s tip.

Despite heading out the exit this summer, Casemiro reportedly had a hand in advising the club on their £39million move to sign Ederson. The Atalanta midfielder is expected to complete a move to Old Trafford, but the move has been delayed after a late call-up to the World Cup 2026 with Brazil.

Casemiro, 34, reportedly gave United the nod toward his international compatriot when it came to tipping a successor. And Fernandes could also have a hand in restructuring his own midfield this summer.

The Telegraph reported in May that Bruno has told the club to pursue a move for his namesake, Mateus Fernandes. The Portugal star, who is not in his nation’s World Cup squad, is anticipated to leave West Ham following their relegation from the Premier League.

And like Casemiro, he’s had the added benefit of spending extra time around his countryman on national team duty. It’s reported that Fernandes has spoken highly of his namesake at United and would like to see the club sign him in the transfer window.

West Ham’s Fernandes, 21, has impressed mightily since he first moved to England with Southampton in 2024. The former Sporting CP prospect was then picked up by West Ham late in last year’s summer transfer window for a fee believed to be just north of £40m.

Knowing full well that the Portuguese playmaker is among their most valuable assets, the Hammers are looking to squeeze as much profit as possible from his sale. A figure of £80m has been touted for the player, though his final transfer fee could be significantly lower.

The Times has reported Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also a fan of the player and could launch his own move for his services. And it could leave Bruno with an unfortunate feeling of deja vu.

It was reported at the time of Declan Rice’s £100m move to the Emirates in 2023 that Fernandes wanted the England star at Old Trafford. He later admitted he was “really sad” Rice headed to north London instead, however, and the Gunners would be seen as stiff rivals once more.

Coming off the back of their first Premier League title since 2004, Arsenal are once again one of the hottest destinations in world football. That’s not to say United will be easily overlooked, however, especially after Michael Carrick secured a return to the Champions League for next season.

It’s possible the club did indeed take on Casemiro’s advice by advancing in their bid to sign Ederson. And the coming weeks will tell just how much they may listen to captain Fernandes in attempting to recruit his own transfer pick.
