Neena Gupta recently reacted to her pregnancy rumours at the age of 66 with her trademark humour. The veteran actor dismissed the speculation and joked that it would be a real-life version of ‘Badhaai Ho’ if the rumours were true. The buzz started after social media users speculated that the actor might be expecting a child. Reacting to it, Neena clarified that there was no truth to the claims. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, she said, “This is all I need, a real-life Badhaai Ho.”

Neena Gupta made it clear that she is not pregnant and explained how the misunderstanding started. “There is no Badhaai Ho. I am not pregnant. The truth is that the saree material was thick, which made me look bulky at the event,” she said.
Neena’s comments also bring attention back to a very different chapter of her life — when she actually faced an unexpected pregnancy decades ago.
When Neena Gupta became a single mother
Neena Gupta has a daughter, Masaba Gupta, who is now a fashion designer and actor. In 1989, Neena discovered she was pregnant during her relationship with West Indies cricket legend Vivian Richards. The two were not married at the time.
Choosing to continue the pregnancy and raise the child on her own was a bold decision, especially in the social climate of that period. Over the years, Neena has spoken openly about that phase of her life, including the emotional and practical challenges of raising a child as a single parent.

During an earlier conversation while promoting the series Masaba Masaba, Neena spoke candidly about her past relationships and her equation with Richards. When asked whether she ever felt resentment towards people from her past, she slammed the idea of holding grudges. “I believe once you love somebody, how can you hate? You cannot live, you cannot be together. I don’t hate my ex-boyfriends. I don’t hate my ex-husband. Why should I hate?”
She also addressed questions about her relationship with Vivian Richards. “Agar koi mereko itna bura lagta hai toh main bachcha usse paida karungi kyun? Mai pagal hoon kya?”
Her memoir on the pregnancy decision
Neena Gupta also wrote about this period in her memoir Sach Kahun Toh, where she recalled receiving advice from many people around her after her pregnancy. “Some people advised me to get an abortion. Others cautioned against the perils of being a single parent. I listened to everyone patiently. They were all very concerned, I know. But once I was back home and alone, I asked myself: What do you think? How does this make you feel? The answer was: I was giddy with joy,” she wrote.
For years, Neena Gupta has spoken about balancing work and motherhood while raising Masaba on her own.
