Liverpool unveil images of ‘Forever 20’ memorial to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva

Liverpool have released images of the new permanent memorial to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva at Anfield.

Titled ‘Forever 20’, it will be positioned on 97 Avenue, close to the stadium’s Main Stand where thousands of tributes were left following the brothers’ tragic passing in a car crash in Spain last July.

Liverpool say the memorial will ‘celebrates their lives, their bond, and the love and respect felt by family, team-mates and supporters across the world’.

At its centre will be a flowing heart sculpture, in acknowledgement of Jota’s iconic goal celebration. Viewed from different angles it will reveal the numbers 20 and 30, which adorned the back of the brothers’ playing shirts.

The memorial will feature the lyrics to Jota’s song which continues to be chanted by supporters at every Liverpool game during the 20th minute.

Liverpool haven’t revealed when the sculpture will be officially unveiled but it will stand on a Granby Rock-faced stone plinth, laser-engraved with a dedication to both brothers. Incorporated into the plinth will be many of the physical tributes that were left at Anfield.

A Liverpool statement added: “This unique recycling process ensures the voices and emotions shared by fans at the time become a permanent and enduring part of this memorial.

“It will also include personal references that reflect Diogo’s life beyond football, including a games controller detail resting on the plinth, and will serve as a permanent symbol of love, unity and remembrance, and a place where everyone can reflect, remember and pay their respects.”

Liverpool permanently retired the number 20 shirt in memory of Jota following his passing.
