Leeds
United twice came from behind to earn a 3-3 draw against
Liverpool on Saturday night, in a frantic second half that saw six
goals scored. Hugo
Ekitiké grabbed a quickfire brace just after half-time to put
Liverpool 2-0 ahead, but Leeds hit back through a
Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty and an Anton
Stach strike.

Dominik Szoboszlai thought he’d won it late on, only for
Ao
Tanaka to level from a corner and earn Leeds a vital point.

The breathless second-half was another example of Liverpool’s
recent defensive fragility. Despite leading twice, they couldn’t
manage to see out the game, conceding a soft penalty and a soft
goal from a set-piece to throw away the three points.

Daniel Farke will be delighted to take something from the
contest. Leeds worked hard to claw themselves back and have now
come through an extremely difficult run against Aston Villa,
Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool with four points, winning
one and drawing one in the last week. They remain just three points
clear of the relegation zone, so the pressure hasn’t lifted, but
the performances have been encouraging.

The first half offered very little. Curtis Jones curled a superb
effort from the edge of the box that had Lucas Perri beaten but
came back off the bar. Virgil van Dijk then headed over from a
Szoboszlai free-kick. But a first half without a single shot on
target underlined the poor form both sides brought into the
game.

If the first half was flat, the second half was positively
electric. Six second-half goals is the most in the second-half of a
Premier League game since March 2024 (Sheffield United vs Fulham –
6).

The opener came from a Leeds mistake. Joe Rodon played a loose
sideways pass across the pitch that Ekitiké pounced on, racing on
to finish for his first Premier League goal in nine games. The
Frenchman made it two moments later, bundling in Conor Bradley’s
cross from the right.

Yet Liverpool allowed Leeds a way back. Ibrahima Konaté’s rash
slide on Wilfried Gnonto gifted the hosts a penalty. Former Everton
man Calvert-Lewin stepped up and buried it. The equaliser soon
followed, with Stach receiving on the turn inside the area and
smashing home.

Liverpool then looked to have stolen it. Ryan Gravenberch glided
forward from midfield and threaded a pass into Alexis Mac Allister,
whose clever dummy let the ball run for Szoboszlai to finish.

But Leeds had the final say. Liverpool failed to clear a late
corner and Tanaka, who also scored in the win over Chelsea in
midweek, levelled to put a pin in a chaotic night at Elland
Road.
