General Hospital icon Kirsten Storms shared an update on social media about her personal life and her status with the soap opera.
Storms has had an unfortunately busy year in her personal life, as she shared on Instagram that her apartment was allegedly broken into and that she has since been dealing with the ramifications, ranging from issues with her WiFi to problems with her personal cellular devices.
Earlier this year, Storms’ ex-husband Brandon Barash went to court to petition for a restraining order against Storms, claiming she was in the midst of a mental health crisis.
The Soap Opera Digest Award winner had remained silent on these allegations before posting the statement on her personal Instagram.
“I’m sure some of you guys have read the stories online regarding a situation involving something my ex-husband is currently trying to claim,” Storms wrote.
The actress explained she felt she needed to address the entire issue, not only because she feels the “records and evidence” will back up her claims, but also “because it puts my safety in a dangerous position” as she continues to allege that someone was “regularly entering” her residence.
The actress explained the timeline of the event, sharing that she took photos of the original incident back in August and sat on them for months as she worked with local agencies to address her concerns before finally going public only after she moved out of the building.
She then revealed her reasoning for taking an extended hiatus from General Hospital at the end of last year. “Choosing to take time off from work (for my own personal reasons) was a ‘leap of faith’ kind of moment for me. Seeking a ‘quality of life’ kinda thing,” she shared.
The actress continued to explain that she’s been working with local authorities to investigate the alleged incidents, but the whole situation has been upsetting.
“I haven’t been online much because of how the circumstances have been twisted into something that they shouldn’t be,” she wrote. “This has been a very serious thing for me to go through.”

That is when Storms addressed the elephant in the room, her status with General Hospital. Fans have anxiously awaited her return, as the character was recently awakened from a coma that facilitated Storm’s previous exit and was immediately confronted with the fact that her husband, Nathan West (Ryan Paevey), was back from the dead. Only unbeknownst to Maxie, her husband is really dead, and ‘Nathan’ is really his evil identical twin brother Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey).
“Given what’s been going on, I can’t say I will be comfortable heading back to Los Angeles and returning to work,” Storms wrote.
“This has been an eye-opening experience about the downside of my profession,” she shared, before closing her statement by adding, “My daughter is my entire life; she is (and always will be) my first priority.
Given Maxie’s importance to the story, it is unknown at this time if the soap opera will recast the role as it has in the past when Storms was unavailable, most famously with Jen Lilley. But a decision will have to be made sooner rather than later to write Maxie out or move the story forward as her absence in Cassius’s storyline continues to be felt by fans and critics alike.
General Hospital airs new episodes weekdays on ABC and streams weeknights on Hulu.
