Jurassic Park star and Emmy-nominated actor Sam Neill has given an “extraordinary” update on his health after he said his cancer treatments stopped working until he discovered a revolutionary option.

The 78-year-old New Zealander opened up about his cancer battle in a new interview with Australian program 7NEWS, telling the outlet that he was “living with a particular type of lymphoma for about five years” before he hit a roadblock.

“I was on chemotherapy. Pretty miserable business, but it was keeping me alive,” he said, before the chemo stopped working altogether.

“I was at a loss, and it looked like I was on the way out, which wasn’t ideal, obviously,” Neill said, though he eventually discovered CAR T-cell therapy, which the news station outlined as a treatment that “genetically modifies patients’ blood cells” and is in clinical trials in the region.

“I’ve had a scan just now, and there is no cancer in my body. This is an extraordinary thing,” Neill said in the conversation.

Hematologist Miles Prince added that the treatment involves a process where “[we] turbocharge those cells to then be able to now recognize the myeloma, which was not visible to the immune system before and then jump on it and kill it.”

Neill called the treatment “science at its best,” and has inspired him to give a hopeful update on his career: “It’s time I did another movie,” he finished.

Neill previously announced that, in 2022, he was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.

“I can’t pretend that the last year hasn’t had its dark moments,” Neill said at the time in an interview with the Guardian. “But those dark moments throw the light into sharp relief, you know, and have made me grateful for every day and immensely grateful for all my friends. Just pleased to be alive.”

Recently, Neill reunited with his Jurassic Park costars Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum for a major Super Bowl commercial for Comcast’s Xfinity, with Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi directing the spot.

After sitting out for several franchise installments as a united trio (though Neill and Dern appeared in Jurassic Park III, and Goldblum had a small cameo in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), the actors all returned for 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion.
