Jose Mourinho has rejoined Real Madrid as manager after 13 years away, but is already fighting certain restrictions back at his old stomping ground
The bureaucracy is already impacting Jose Mourinho’s daily routine back at Real Madrid. At least regarding his commute to work, thanks to an exclusive club partnership that not even ‘The Special One’ can circumvent.
Los Blancos maintain a comprehensive agreement with BMW that prohibits players from driving any other vehicle brand to the Bernabeu or training ground. This restriction extends to the coaching staff as well, who must also drive the German manufacturer’s vehicles.
Trent Alexander-Arnold encountered the same regulation around this time last year following his £8.4million transfer from Liverpool. The England international was therefore unable to drive his £130,000 Range Rover P530 to work as he might have preferred after relocating to Spain.
Mourinho, who is no stranger to impressive motors himself, will be required to comply with these identical rules. This will prevent the former Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Roma and Benfica manager from utilising some expensive rides of his own.

More precisely, it will stop his personal chauffeur from operating such a diverse fleet of cars. Nevertheless, he’ll need to select a BMW from a predetermined catalogue of options as his new vehicle of choice.
Consequently, Mourinho will need to keep his current collection parked up most of the time. The Special One has accumulated quite an impressive array of motors over the years, including a £200,000 Bentley and a Jaguar F-Pace.
Nevertheless, his preferred vehicle is understood to be a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. The very same one reportedly gifted to him by former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in 2007.
Mourinho arrived for his opening training session at Benfica last September in the iconic motor. The car was said to have been valued at £250,000 at the time and may be worth even more now.
That said, being restricted to a relatively exclusive selection of hybrid and fully electric vehicles isn’t quite a hardship. It’s reported all Real players, including the women’s squad and basketball team, receive a fresh motor to drive to training each season.
For instance, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe both drive a BMW XM as their everyday vehicles. And a 748-horsepower machine that accelerates to 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds costing approximately £135,000 is no bad deal for a complimentary offering.
Meanwhile, team talisman Vinicius Junior has been seen sporting a BMW i7 M70 xDrive as his choice from the range. Knowing Mourinho, though, he may well select one of the more understated options available.
Anticipation is building as Mourinho reconnects with president Florentino Perez 13 years after his initial spell at Real came to a close. While he may need to comply with the club’s vehicle regulations, there will be only one individual making the key decisions regarding Mourinho’s squad for the upcoming campaign.
