Jason Statham’s new movie where he plays Jason Statham confirms 2027 release date

Jason Statham may have played variations of a similar character type over the years, but one of his upcoming roles is an altogether different proposition. That’s because in Jason Statham Stole My Bike, Statham will be playing himself!

Announced in February, the highly-anticipated action-comedy is from director David Leitch, who previously worked with Statham in 2019 with Fast & Furious spin-off film, Hobbs & Shaw.

While plot details (we’re guessing there’s more to the narrative than some vehicular theft) remain scarce, the project is moving forward, and a tentative release date of 6 August 2027 has been set for North America (via The Hollywood Reporter).

A UK release date is not yet known, though Amazon MGM Studios has acquired distribution rights for the film in several territories. This could mean that the film goes straight to Prime Video, or comes to cinemas via a partnership.

The screenplay is being written by Alison Flieri, from an original idea she conceived with Scott Chernoff. Statham and Leitch, the latter of whom also directed Bullet Train and Atomic Blonde, are also serving as producers.

Upon the project’s announcement, it was said – with tongue very firmly planted in cheek – that Statham had landed the “role of a lifetime as a global action superstar”, with the budget reportedly being $80 million for the film.

While we’ll have to wait a while to see how Statham fares as himself (not to mention whose bike he stole), the actor’s most recent big-screen outing, Shelter, proved to be well-liked upon its release in January.

Here, Statham portrays Michael Mason, a former Royal Marines Commando and MI6 agent who lives an isolated life on a remote Scottish isle. He’s forced to come out of hiding, however, when a young girl’s life is in danger.

Featuring Daniel Mays and Bill Nighy in supporting roles, the film grossed over $53 million at the box office, and was generally praised by critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the action-thriller has an approval rating of 64% from 120 reviews.

Statham will return to the big screen later this year with Mutiny, a conspiracy thriller where his character is framed for the murder of his friend. Sky Cinema has distribution in the UK, with a release expected in August.

Jason Statham Stole My Bike is scheduled to be released in the US on 6 August 2027.
