iPhone 18 Pro Design Rumours: Apple May Reduce Dynamic Island Size

The iPhone 18 series is expected to debut later this year, possibly alongside Apple foldable iPhone, with early reports suggesting limited design changes compared to the iPhone 17 Pro. However, new leaks indicate that Apple may be actively experimenting with multiple design options for the iPhone 18 Pro, potentially bringing noticeable updates to both its front and rear aesthetics.

Recent leaks from tipster Digital Chat Station suggest that Apple is actively testing two different display designs for the iPhone 18 Pro. One option reportedly sticks with the current display layout seen on recent models, while the second introduces a smaller “Mini Dynamic Island.” This new approach could involve shifting some Face ID components beneath the display, allowing for a cleaner and less intrusive screen design.

According to earlier reports, the redesigned Dynamic Island could shrink by roughly 35 percent compared to the iPhone 17 Pro. However, Apple has not locked in a final design yet and is said to be conducting A/B testing between the two display options. If the company ultimately decides to reuse its existing screen mould, the Dynamic Island may remain largely unchanged, potentially sidelining one of the most anticipated upgrades.

On the rear, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to follow a more conservative path. The tipster indicates that Apple is likely to retain the familiar rectangular camera plateau seen in recent models, reflecting an iterative design strategy. While major structural changes may be unlikely, subtle refinements in materials, finish, and possibly new colour options could still be introduced to differentiate the device.

These claims align with a previous report from Mark Gurman, who also suggested that Apple is working on a smaller Dynamic Island for its next Pro models. First introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro lineup in 2022, the feature replaced the traditional notch and has since seen gradual size reductions. Past leaks indicate that the cutout could shrink from about 20.7mm on the iPhone 17 Pro to roughly 13.49mm on the iPhone 18 Pro, marking another incremental, but more noticeable—step toward a cleaner, near full-screen display.
