India Preview

India head into the third T20I in Dharamsala knowing they have a few issues to sort out. The first match may have ended in a big win, but a closer look shows how Hardik Pandya’s knock pulled them out of trouble after most of the batting order struggled to get going. The pattern returned in the next outing too, where Tilak Varma’s 62 off 34 held the innings together while others found it hard to settle.

They need a clearer plan for how their batting unit wants to approach each phase and may even need to rethink the order. Abhishek Sharma will again look for a quick start in the powerplay. He was India’s main spark in the Asia Cup and in Australia, often firing 30 to 40 runs at a strike rate above 200. One firm strike of 30 from him can shift the innings in India’s favour without much fuss.

Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav have gone through a lean spell and will have their hands full trying to steady things. Tilak Varma should once again anchor the middle overs and is well placed for a contribution of 30 plus if he gets time at the crease.

Lower down, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Jitesh Sharma carry enough power to add 20 to 30 runs each if the situation allows. Their presence adds balance to India’s chase or set-up.

India’s bowling was below par in the second game, with both Bumrah and Arshdeep going wicketless and conceding far too many. The expectation, though, is that both will return to their usual standard here.

Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy strengthen the spin attack, and their spells can change the match quickly, as seen in the opening game. Hardik and Dube add useful overs of seam to round out the attack and give the captain extra options.

South Africa Preview

South Africa have bounced back and claimed a commanding 51-run win in the second match after being outplayed in the previous game. It was clearly just an off day for the South African batting unit at Cuttack. They were excellent in the next game and made the surface look a lot better than it actually was. Quinton de Kock set things up with his 90 and found support right through the order as they posted a hefty 213.

For the next match, Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock will again look to shape the early phase of their lineup, blending intent with the patience needed to build once the opposition tightens its lines.

The middle section is held by Tristan Stubbs, who can spend long stretches at the crease and guide the innings forward while keeping his strike rate moving.

Their batting has depth with Dewald Brevis, David Miller, and Donovan Ferreira giving steady help through the later part of the order. All three have shown they can chip in with bursts of 20 to 30 runs at a strike rate above 140, which adds length to this side.

The bowling unit looked balanced as Lutho Sipamla and Lungi Ngidi can deliver strong spells that trouble India at the start and during the closing overs. Jansen has also added pressure through the bounce and pace he finds on this tour, and he should have another good outing. Ottneil Baartman has been another useful addition to this attack, as he claimed 4/24 in the last game, and showed he can take important wickets in the middle overs to halt India’s batters.

Weather Conditions

Expect good bounce and extra carry under lights at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, where altitude makes the ball travel quickly once it’s struck. Pacers can extract some early movement and use the pace-friendly surface to trouble batters. Once the innings settles, scoring can pick up with shorter boundaries aiding big shots. Dew can affect the second innings in a night T20, influencing grip and how teams approach their strategies.

The weather will be cold and a tad hazy, but we will get a full game.

The average score batting first in Dharamsala is 187. For this game, a score of around 180-190 will be needed to put pressure on the chasing side, as dew will make batting easier in the second innings.

Toss: To Bowl

Most sides prefer chasing in night games in T20 matches in India, and this pattern has already been seen in the previous two matches of this series. So, expect the toss-winning captain to field first here.

India normally dictate terms in home conditions, yet South Africa have exposed a few weak areas in both their batting and bowling that cannot be ignored. If Abhishek Sharma falls early again, their batting unit could run into more trouble. And their bowling unit, especially Bumrah and Arshdeep, must tighten their lines or the pressure will rise quickly. For the visitors to take a 2-1 lead, they will need the same level of execution they showed in the last match. The matchup looks extremely tight, but we still give India a 51-49 edge in this match due to their home advantage.

India are our picks for the winners of this match.
