Ian Wright names the Arsenal star who made a ‘massive’ mistake vs Chelsea, it’s why they didn’t win

Arsenal had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners were given a big advantage in the first half after Moises Caicedo was sent off for a terrible challenge on Mikel Merino.

Arsenal seemed like the favourites to win the derby from that point, but it was Chelsea who were the better side for large parts of the game.

Despite that, Arsenal had a golden opportunity to win it late on, but Ian Wright thinks Viktor Gyokeres’ mistake cost them two points.

Ian Wright highlights Viktor Gyokeres’ mistake during Chelsea vs Arsenal

It was a big boost for Arsenal to have Gyokeres back after his injury.

The Swede had missed the last few games due to a muscular issue he picked up during the win against Burnley, but his availability made the Gunners stronger.

Gyokeres started on the bench at Stamford Bridge and came on for Eberechi Eze in the 72nd minute. He didn’t have much to do, but his movement caused a few problems for Chelsea.

However, in stoppage time, Piero Hincapie delivered a beautiful cross into the box. The Arsenal number 14 was all set to head it in, but Jurrien Timber got in the way, and his header went wide.

The Dutchman should’ve left it for his striker, but Wright thinks Gyokeres was the one at fault.

The Arsenal legend said on Premier League Productions: “If this was me, I’m screaming so loud that anyone in front of me is going to cringe or going to drop out.

“That’s what I have always been told, you have to shout and let them know you are coming, because then Timber moves his head out of the way, and then Gyokeres comes in and gets a clean header, a free header.

“I would be devastated with that. He’s got to let him know, he has to let him know. When that’s coming in, Viktor Gyokeres has to let Jurrien Timber know that ‘I’m coming’. That’s a massive opportunity missed.”

Arsenal did not do enough to beat Chelsea

Arsenal didn’t look great from the start.

Chelsea looked like they wanted it more from the first whistle, and even after Caicedo’s red card, they looked the more dangerous side.

Yes, if Timber had moved out of the way and Gyokeres scored, we would have been delighted, but a draw was the fair result based on the performance.

That is frustrating when you consider the numerical advantage, but two wins and a draw in consecutive games against Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Chelsea is a solid return.

Mikel Arteta and his players should accept it and move on.
