Hyundai’s Answer To The Toyota Fortuner! » MotorOctane

The Fortuner remains the SUV to beat for most automakers. Skoda, MG, and Volkswagen have all brought good products to the segment, yet the Fortuner remains the best seller despite being the oldest of them all. And now, Hyundai will be entering this segment as well with a worthy rival to the Fortuner. Here are all the details you should know about the upcoming Hyundai 7-seater SUV.

The New Hyundai Palisade

Hyundai Palisade

Hyundai currently has only one 7-seater in its lineup, the Alcazar. But what if you want something much more premium? Well, the Palisade is the answer for that. The Palisade is Hyundai’s flagship 7-seater SUV in global markets, and it will be arriving to India pretty soon. But does the Palisade have what it takes to go up against the Fortuner?

From the looks of it, it looks striking. The horizontal headlight and taillight slabs, 21-inch alloys and the huge grille give it road presence. And arguably, road presence is the main criteria you look for when buying such an SUV. On the lower trims, you get smaller alloys and fewer bits of chrome bling, but nonetheless, it’s a looker.

Hyundai Palisade – Features & Specifications

The global spec model gets amenities such as a dual-screen setup, Level-2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, powered front seats with ventilation and memory functions, a power-folding 3rd-row seat, and an electric tailgate. The Palisade is a 4.98m SUV, making it longer and more practical than the Fortuner. Not to mention, thanks to its 2.9m long wheelbase, the cabin is as roomy as it gets.

As for the powertrain, the Palisade is offered with 2 engine options –

  • 3.5-litre V6 petrol (287bhp & 352Nm) mated to an 8-speed AT
  • 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol-hybrid (258bhp & 352Nm) mated to a 6-speed AT.

And like a true off-roader, it also gets an AWD drivetrain option. In India, we could get the hybrid powertrain as standard. The Palisade hybrid claims a mileage of 15 kmpl, which is quite impressive for a car of its size.

Hyundai Palisade – Expected Pricing & Launch

It will be the flagship Hyundai SUV, so it won’t be cheap. We expect a price tag of around Rs 55 lakh to Rs 65 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). But this seems a fair price given its long equipment list and the hybrid powertrain.

Hyundai has kept the Palisade’s launch date a mystery, but we could very well see it sometime between late 2027 and early 2028. You would have to wait a pretty long time for it. But that wait seems worth it, as the Fortuner facelift, the lower-trim Tayron, and many other premium SUVs will also be launched by then.
