Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten brought the heat when it mattered most Saturday at the Mutua Madrid Open, where they captured their fourth title of the season.
The third seeds overcame Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 in the ATP Masters 1000 final, during which they reeled off five consecutive points from 5/7 in the Match Tie-break to prevail under a closed roof inside Manolo Santana Stadium. Having also triumphed in Adelaide, Doha and Dubai, Heliovaara and Patten are first in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings.
“I want to thank the tournament for making this a very nice event for us,” Heliovaara said during the trophy ceremony. “As a Fin and a Brit, we’re always happy to play under the roof, as that’s what we do in Finland during most of the year.”
It has been a statement start to the 2026 season for Heliovaara and Patten, who are 23-4 on the year, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. Their victory in the Spanish capital marks their fourth title of the season but their first of 2026 at Masters 1000 level.
Andreozzi and Guinard, who won their first team title at the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells in March, leave Madrid up two places to third in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings. They are aiming to make their debut at the Nitto ATP Finals, where Heliovaara and Patten are reigning champions.
“Congratulations, guys,” Patten said to Andreozzi and Guinard. “You’re having an incredible year, you’re one of the best doubles teams in the world at the moment. We enjoy some matches against you, hate others. They’re always crazy.”
Heliovaara and Patten appeared destined for defeat when they trailed 0/4 and 5/7 in the Match Tie-break, but they remained composed to overwhelm their unseeded opponents in the tight moments. With their victory, they improved to 2-1 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Andreozzi and Guinard, who were competing in their second final as a team.
