Cody Rhodes retained the WWE championship against GUNTHER last weekend at Clash In Italy. However, the match had a controversial finish where the referee counted the pin fall despite GUNTHER’s foot initially being under the ring ropes.
GUNTHER kicked off tonight’s (June 5) episode of SmackDown in Italy understandably pissed off, throwing furniture around, and ranting about WWE’s golden boy. Cody interrupted and said let’s do the rematch tonight.
Sami Zayn soon crashed the party and took issue with both men for wronging him. He also suggested that Cody needs to stop overlooking him, because Sami is the biggest threat to his title reign. One thing led to another, and Zayn ultimately did the right thing by saving Cody from an attack by GUNTHER, only for Rhodes to accidentally take out his friend moments later.
Later in the night, GM Nick Aldis informed Cody that GUNTHER accepts the rematch, but only under one condition, which the Ring General will reveal next week. Rhodes said that’s fine, but he’s not putting this off any longer. Therefore they’ll do the rematch in two weeks, on the June 19 episode of SmackDown in Kansas City, Missouri.
Do you think Cody Rhodes will once again prove that GUNTHER just isn’t that good when they have their rematch on June 19? What condition, gimmick, or stipulation do you want to see GUNTHER choose for the fight? Does Sami Zayn inevitably find a way to make it all about himself?
