Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) shares edged lower on Tuesday even as the company introduced a new real-time speech translation system designed to enhance live multilingual communication.

The technology, called Gemini 3.5 Live Translate, supports more than 70 languages and is designed to produce continuous audio translation while preserving tone, pace, and vocal expression. Google said the system is intended to reduce delays commonly seen in traditional translation tools that wait for full sentences before responding.

The model instead processes speech in near real time, allowing translated output to remain closely aligned with the original speaker with only a short delay. Google said this approach aims to improve conversational flow and reduce pauses during live interaction.

The feature is currently available in preview for developers through the Gemini Live API and Google AI Studio, and for enterprise users via Google Meet. Wider availability is planned through the Google Translate app on Android and iOS, expanding access to the AI-driven translation tool.
