Google adds in-chat file generation to Gemini with PDF, Word and Excel export

Google has introduced a new feature for its Gemini app that allows users to generate and export files directly from within chat, expanding the platform’s document creation capabilities.

The update enables users to create multiple file formats, including PDFs, Microsoft Word (.docx), and Excel spreadsheets, without leaving the Gemini interface. Files can be downloaded directly to a device or exported to Google Drive.

In a blog post, Google said Gemini now supports formats such as Google Docs, Google Slides, Microsoft Word, PDF, plain text (TXT), and Rich Text Format (RTF). The feature is being rolled out globally to all Gemini users across mobile and web, including both personal accounts and Google Workspace users.

Sundar Pichai highlighted the update in a post on X, stating that users can now prompt Gemini to create Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs and other file types directly within chat, removing the need for copying, pasting or reformatting content.

Previously, users had to manually transfer text generated in Gemini into external tools to convert it into structured documents. With the new feature, Gemini can directly generate formatted outputs, such as turning prompts into PDFs or structured spreadsheets.

While direct export to Microsoft PowerPoint is not currently supported, users can create presentations in Google Slides and then download them as PowerPoint files.

Google said the feature is now available to all users of the Gemini app and web platform, marking an expansion of its in-app productivity tools.
