The Golmaal franchise is synonymous with absolute chaos, uncontrollable laughter, and box office historic runs. Just when fans thought Rohit Shetty’s upcoming Golmaal 5 couldn’t get any bigger, Bollywood’s ultimate Khiladi, Akshay Kumar, joined the madness. Now, the latest industry buzz suggests that Akki is charging a whopping Rs 40 crore for his stint in the film. Read on.
Is Akshay Kumar charging a jaw-dropping Rs 40 crore for a short schedule in Golmaal 5?
According to IANS, Akshay Kumar is charging a jaw-dropping Rs 35 to Rs 40 crore for a short schedule of just 18 to 22 days of shooting in Golmaal 5. Interestingly, this upfront fee is significantly higher than what the franchise’s main face, Ajay Devgn, is taking home initially.
Sources reveal that Ajay Devgn has opted for a profit-sharing model as a producer, which will yield him a good amount of money after the success of the film. Confirming the same, an insider told IANS, “Akshay Kumar is shooting for 18-22 days, and he is getting around Rs 35-Rs 40 crores, which is more than Ajay Devgn’s upfront fees because he is on a profit-sharing basis.”
Initially announced on director Rohit Shetty’s birthday in March, Akshay’s inclusion in the laugh riot was kept strictly under wraps. In a behind-the-scenes video dropped by the makers, Akshay shocked fans by unveiling an all-new look, instantly sparking theories about his character.
Addressing the major chatter around his role, Akshay gracefully cleared the air in a recent chat with News 18, stating, “I’m happy that they think I was good enough to be a part of Golmaal. Ajay is the main hero. I’m not playing the main part. But what’s wrong with it? For me, it’s far more important what the film is setting out to achieve. If I like the story, I’ll do it.”
He added, “Mera role badhiya hai Golmaal mein, but Ajay’s the hero. I’ve no insecurity. Uski koi zaroorat nahi hai.”
While Akshay brings a fresh energy to the universe, Golmaal 5 brings back the iconic ensemble that audiences have loved for two decades. The production features a stellar lineup including Ajay Devgn, reprising his legendary role as Gopal, along with Arshad Warsi as Madhav, Tusshar Kapoor as Lucky, Shreyas Talpade as Laxman, and Kunal Kemmu as Laxman. Sharman Joshi is also reportedly back in the mix.
Recently, Rohit Shetty stirred up pure nostalgia by dropping a video of Arshad and Sharman recreating their iconic race-car waving scene from 20 years ago.
