George, Charlotte, and Louis Look So Grown at Kate Middleton’s Christmas Concert

Kate Middleton was supported by her husband Prince William and their kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis for her milestone fifth “Together at Christmas” carol concert at Westminster Abbey—and it’s impossible to not notice how grown the three kids look.

The outing marked the Wales family of five’s first joint outing in six months, since June’s Trooping the Colour.

Far from the babies we met years ago are George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7, who arrived with the Prince of Wales after the Princess of Wales had already made her first appearance at the Abbey. It was at this same venue where William and Kate married over 14 years ago in 2011, and the three kids coordinated in blue looks alongside the Princess of Wales’s jewel-toned green Catherine Walker coat.

Despite the last minute cancellation of celebrity guest Hannah Waddingham, the event Friday evening pressed on. William and Kate are very careful about their kids’ public appearances, wanting them to instead focus on being kids. “Those children look pretty happy with life,” a palace source previously told People. “A lot of it is the stabilizing normality Kate brings—and that’s how she grew up. William absolutely loves it.”

“Coming from a different background, she appreciates the importance of having family time,” an insider added. “She wasn’t brought up in that aristocratic setting where you see the children for a short time each day.”

Kate’s carol concert followed the German state visit kickoff on December 3, where Kate’s long, straight brunette hair worn for the daytime events reminded many of Charlotte, who has been described as her mom’s “mini-me.” With Charlotte and her brothers, William and Kate “consciously set out to achieve a sense of normality,” a source close to the family told People.

“Royal families over the generations haven’t had the chance to get those foundations right, but they have,” a friend added.

Speaking on the October 3 episode of Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler, William told host Eugene Levy—who was in attendance at the carol concert—that it was important for him and Kate to raise their kids with “that warmth, that feeling of safety, security, love.”

“For me, the most important thing in my life is family, and everything is about the future and about if you don’t start the children off now with a happy, healthy, stable home, I feel you’re setting them up for a bit of a hard time and a fall,” he said. “And so, it’s about making sure that we can look after our families, look after our children, in a way that is best for their future.”
