From Startup To Clients Like Taylor Swift And Elon Musk, Riverside’s Rise Has Been Truly Remarkable

Over the past five years, Riverside has gone from a modest startup that set out to make remote podcast recording easier to a comprehensive, AI-enabled content creation platform forging a formidable reputation.

Like other successful startups, Riverside’s stream of press releases chronicles the company’s progress from when it was founded in 2020 by brothers Nadav, Jonathan and Gideon Keyson. I was one of the first tech journalists to interview the young men from Amsterdam and was struck by their passion and technical prowess.

Five years on and the story is one of rapid growth. Launched with a modest $2.5M in funding, Riverside swiftly gained marquee users before going on to raise larger rounds of A, B and C funding, backed by tech luminaries. The brothers didn’t waste a moment and continued to ship new features that genuinely established new standards in the podcasting industry.

Secret To Success

So, what was Riverside’s secret to rapid success? Well, it can probably be attributed to the company’s ability to provide solutions for the clear pain points in the podcasting process by providing studio-grade quality sound and video when connecting with guests and remote contributors.

Instead of relying on live and compressed sound from Zoom or other meeting software, Riverside quietly records audio and video in the background while facilitating a live feed between contributors. Sound and video feeds are stealthily uploaded to the Riverside servers ready for the podcast producer to edit and perfect when the recording is over.

The company has continued to expand on its solution and soon produced an integrated workflow that addresses recording, editing and podcast distribution, all in one package. Now people use Riverside for all kinds of jobs, but the product’s success really comes down to getting the best audio and video quality without the hassle or need for technical knowledge.

Podcasters and creators love the idea that it’s one product delivering studio-quality sound and vision quickly and easily. Marketers and producers use Riverside for similar reasons, plus it offers control, collaboration and ability to scale high-quality video content without slowing down the creative process.

Global Creativity

After five years, Riverside has established its value across a range of industries. Creatives can collaborate globally without compromising on quality, while businesses can maintain communications and produce marketing content efficiently. Journalists and media producers can capture important stories and interviews from anywhere in the world where there is an internet connection.

Today, Riverside’s users range from companies like Marvel and Ted, from Hubspot to Salesforce and from Ali Abdaal to Jay Shetty. The client list reflects Riverside’s impact on modern content creation over a relatively short timescale. Partnerships with platforms like Spotify and enterprise allies like AWS have further boosted the company’s reach and utility.

As 2026 approaches, Riverside finds itself at the intersection of several trends: remote/hybrid workflows, the rise of video podcasts, plus the incorporation of AI in creative processes. The platform’s latest AI features — such as chat-based editing and automatic repurposing — offer a tantalizing glimpse of where the company is heading.

Local First Recording

Riverside is increasingly taking on the heavy lifting of content production by augmenting the process with intelligent assistants. Riverside says it is positioned not only as a tool for the current era of digital content but as an innovator that could shape how content is created for years to come.

Currently, Riverside’s product stack covers the entire content creation process, including high-quality recording, built-in editing, full-HD live streaming, hosting, repurposing and even publishing. When it comes to being a studio-quality recording tool, Riverside’s differentiator is its “local-first” recording approach.

Each participant’s audio and video are captured in full quality — up to 4K/48kHz — on their local device such as a laptop and is uploaded progressively in the background. This approach ensures studio-grade results unaffected by poor internet access or Wi-Fi dropouts. If there are any glitches, the segment is just requested again by the server.

Professional Post-Production

The system records separate tracks for each participant and screen share makes professional post-production easy. The tracks are all stored safely on Riverside’s servers, so if a laptop goes missing the video and audio files are safe.

Riverside has a full text-based editor that sits on top of the podcast transcript. It offers a zoomable timeline, trim and split, precise in and out adjustments, plus granular audio control. The editor also supports adding and repositioning of media, whether that’s images, music, previous edits, uploads etc. The editor also integrates smart AI features to reduce the editing time.

Other advanced features include accurate, multilingual transcripts for editing or accessibility. There are text and chat-based editing that enables users to edit a podcast simply by typing or instructing an AI assistant using commands like “remove filler words” or “create a highlight reel.”

Smart Video Switching

The system also offers smart video switching based on who’s talking, which means it works a bit like a gallery director and vision mixer rolled into one. There are other enhancements available, such as one-click audio cleaning, video sharpening, video dubbing, fluff and filler word removal, AI-b roll, eye-contact correction and even AI translations.

Since its launch, Riverside has brought together recording and live streaming at resolutions up to 1080p on YouTube, Facebook, Twitch and RTMP destinations. Users can run live shows or webinars while simultaneously capturing high-quality local recordings for later editing.

Other tools like Producer Mode, media insertion tools as well as support for external chat platforms make Riverside suitable for live production workflows. The company says the whole experience is made easy for guests who can join the studio by clicking on a single link. This enables a much broader panel of guests to be invited because they don’t need any technical expertise to join in with a podcast or live stream because the pro-quality sound and image is taken care of.

Apple, Spotify And YouTube

Riverside’s latest addition enables users to host their podcast on Riverside as well as distribute it to Apple, Spotify and YouTube. This means their podcast or production can be listed on major directories. The approach covers the entire podcast production process from recording to distribution, and it’s all in one place.

The company has put a big focus on utilizing AI to shorten the time it takes to get content to market. A favorite feature with users is called “Made for You” which can instantly create assets made with AI right after recording is finished.

The “Made for You” section can generate an entire episode edit from a recording, plus a transcript, show notes and can even create ready-to-share social clips, hooks and segments. On top of that, users can chat with Co-Creator, a built-in AI agent that will repurpose content into clips, thumbnails, social media posts and more.

Riverside has introduced some advanced business features to cater for teams of all sizes, enabling control and collaboration. Features include Async Workflow so, instead of hosting a live recording session, participants can record their contributions separately and then the segments can be stitched together or stored as recordings in the same project.

Producer Mode Features

The ability to join a cast in Producer Mode means business can handle all the technical needs of a session without being recorded. The ability to control a guest’s input/outputs helps to maintain quality. A brand kit can be applied to a production, complete with fonts, colors and logos, to ensure brand consistency.

Other useful features include team collaboration with roles and permission control. There’s even access to the Riverside API with the ability to export timelines to Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro.

Riverside currently serves a broad spectrum of uses, including podcasting, video content, webinars and live sessions. Many companies are running their webinars and live sessions directly from Riverside, sending the live feed to LinkedIn, YouTube or wherever the audience happens to be, plus they still have separate, high-quality recordings of every speaker that can be reused or repurposed later.

So far, the Riverside team has seen the product used for a wide spectrum of content creation. For example, the company proudly points out how Taylor Swift recorded her famous New Heights episode using Riverside, while Elon Musk livestreamed his last X AMA on the platform. In just five short years, the Keyson brothers have come a long way. I can’t wait to see what they do with Riverside over the next five years.
