The Forza Horizon 6 community has been a little on edge lately after widespread reports of lost save files, seemingly at random. Players report losing their entire saves, forcing them to start from scratch. It has left developers Playground Games scratching their heads – but now some fixes are being rolled out to “help improve these issues”.
FH6 was released on May 19 for Xbox and PC has been an incredible success for the devs and publisher Xbox Game Studios. You can count it as an ‘exclusive’ for now, though a PlayStation 5 version will be arriving by the end of the year.
Latest Forza Horizon 6 update aims to fix the lost save files issue
Forza Support lists a handful of fixes to alleviate the problem. Playground Games suggests Xbox Series X/S players disable Quick Resume, while recommending to all players (Xbox and PC) that they should take extra care before exiting, ensuring the save icon is not visible before closing the game.
They also suggest waiting a few minutes before shutting down your device to ensure successful cloud synchronization. The good news is that, last night, the developers posted an update to confirm fixes have been rolled out for Windows PC users. This is via Xbox’s Gaming Services application, which runs in the background. A system update for Xbox players will arrive today, June 12.

We’ll have to wait and see if these patches have actually resolved the problem once and for all. Some players have shied away from playing the game until the issue has been fixed. The fear of losing all your progress is real, especially if you’ve already committed tens or hundreds of hours into your save file.
