Everything you need to know about the new NexPhone

Nex Computer, the company behind the NexDock, has now revealed the NexPhone, a device that can run three operating systems. If you connect it to an external display, it transforms into a full-fledged desktop computer running Android 16, Linux (Debian), or Windows 11. The version of Windows 11 it runs is the complete desktop operating system, not the discontinued Windows Phone edition Microsoft abandoned years ago.

Let’s take a look at everything the NexPhone has to offer and what it costs.

The NexPhone looks like an ordinary smartphone from the outside, but it is anything but. It runs on a custom Qualcomm chipset, which, based on its core configuration, clock speed, and GPU, appears to be a modified version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G.

This means the device is powered by a mobile chip rather than a PC-class chipset, like the newer Snapdragon X-series processor. However, there’s a reason for this choice: Snapdragon X CPUs are primarily designed for Windows on ARM and do not directly support Android.

The NexPhone also offers a decent screen size, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, a fingerprint sensor, DisplayPort via USB-C, and more.

Features and OS support

The NexPhone can be used as a phone, thanks to cellular connectivity, and as a PC when connected to an external display. During the boot process, the bootloader will present options for Android and Windows 11, and you have to choose one to operate your device.

To access Debian Linux, you must boot from Android and launch it from there. The OS will run on top of Android in a separate window. To switch to a different OS, like Windows 11, you must reboot your phone and choose Windows from the bootloader options.

Windows 11 on the NexPhone is not the same as the old Windows Phone. To make it more mobile-friendly, Nex Computer developed a Windows Phone-like shell. However, many Windows applications may not adapt well to the smaller smartphone display.

Pricing and availability

The NexPhone is priced at $549. You can book it right now for $199, which is refundable, and pay the rest when the phone officially launches. The device will be released in Q3 2026, with more details to come as the launch date approaches.
