‘Emily in Paris’ alum Pierre Deny dead after ‘sudden and severe’ ALS battle – Chicago Tribune

“Emily in Paris” actor Pierre Deny has died in France this week after battling “a sudden and severe case” of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He was 69.

The death of Deny, who appeared in the Netflix hit’s third and fourth seasons, was confirmed Monday by his daughters via a statement to French outlet TF1.

“It is with deep emotion that we announce the passing of Pierre Deny, which occurred this Monday following a sudden and severe case of ALS,” they said.

The neurological disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, causes muscle weakness and can affect the muscles used to move, speak, eat and breathe, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Deny debuted on Darren Star-created “Emily in Paris” in 2022 as Louis de Léon, the father to Paul Forman’s Nicolas, late in season 3, and reprised the role in the first two episodes of the fourth season.

Deny started in the theater and made his screen debut in a 1978 short, “Noctuor,” followed in 1982 by first feature, “The Bourgeois Gentleman.”

He was best known for starring as Philippe Kremen in the television series, “Une Femme D’Honneur” from 1999 to 2008, and the 2008 series “Cinq Soeurs,” as well as the 2012 film, “Another Woman’s Life.”

Deny also appeared in over 300 episodes of “Tomorrow Is Ours,” between 2017 and 2023.

Deny’s last screen credits were both television appearances from 2025, in an episode each of “Le Fil d’Ariane” and “Camping Paradise.”

Deny’s death from ALS comes just months after “Euphoria” and “Grey’s Anatomy” star Eric Dane died in February at age 53. Dane died less than a year after announcing that he too had been battling ALS.
