The Undertaker is a Nightfarer that will no doubt remain popular throughout Nightreign runs, as this unsuspecting abbess – sent to slay the Nightlord by her monastery – packs a real punch in battle. Scaling with both Strength and Faith, this unsuspectingly strong Nightfarer is capable of slaying enemies with the utmost efficiency.
And if you’re a fan of wielding huge weapons whilst also slinging fiery magic, The Undertaker’s attributes compliment that perfectly. To help you make the most of her, here’s our Nightreign Undertaker build guide.
Elden Ring Nightreign Undertaker build guide
This build guide runs through the Undertaker’s kit, her attributes (stats), and some of the best Nightfarer’s and Relics to use alongside her.
Nightreign Undertaker kit: abilities, skills, and art
The Undertaker’s kit in Nightreign features the following Skill, Passive Ability, and Ultimate Art:
- Preferred Weapons: Hammers
- Skill – Trance: Bloodletting triggers the power of the loathsome hex. This temporarily increases The Undertaker’s speed (without affecting her stamina), her attack power, and her damage negation. Her dodge also becomes a swift dodge-step while this is active, like Duchess’ dodge.
- Passive Ability – Confluence: Ally’s execution of art enables additional art activation regardless of gauge. When an ally uses their Art, The Undertaker then has a temporary window to activate her own Art at no cost.
- Ultimate Art – Loathsome Hex: Pull out uncanny bone from body, speed toward target, and strike. The Undertaker dives through the air towards a target before unleashing a high-power attack on the opponent.
On top of that, it’s also worth bearing in mind that The Undertaker has A-tier scaling with Strength and Faith, meaning that she can wield huge, Strength-scaling weapons with ease while also making the most of a Sacred Seal and some Faith-scaling spells. She’s ultimately very versatile, and very powerful.
With this and The Undertaker’s kit in mind, they’re a good character for anyone who wishes to run a traditional, highly-offensive Strength build. Sure, the likes of Wylder and Raider are already very good for this, but their kits are more focused on guarding and tanking than the Undertaker’s kit is. She instead swaps defensive capabilities for even more offensive capabilities (though, with some luck, you may find some supportive Incantations you can also make use of).
All in all, the Undertaker’s kit is relatively straight-forward; she can buff herself using her Skill and can unleash a devastating attack with her Ultimate, and can repeatedly use her Ultimate whenever an ally uses theirs thanks to her passive. Ultimately, she is solely focused on damaging foes as much as – and as often as – possible using a mixture of both Strength-scaling weapons and Faith-scaling Incantations. For what it’s worth, Lightning and Holy-damage scales with Faith, so you want to look out for any Sacred Seals or weapons that possess these elements.
Thanks to her kit and her attributes, Undertaker can be played in a mixture of ways; dual-wield hammers or craft an electrifying Lightning build, or do both, it’s up to you. All that matters is that you’re constantly whittling away at the opponent’s HP and making good use of that Loathsome Hex whenever it is available to you, and be sure to coordinate with allies so you can unleash your Ultimate Art as many times as possible throughout an expedition.
To really maximise the Undertaker’s damage, you want to use Nightfarer’s that synergise with her kit – such as Duchess – and communicate with one another to unleash attacks (especially Ultimates) at pivotal times during a fight.
Best Undertaker teammates in Nightreign
Undertaker is very capable of holding her own in battle as a Strength and Faith user who can buff herself. As long as her allies are using their Ultimate Arts regularly (and communicating that to Undertaker) so she can repeatedly use her own Ultimate, she doesn’t need much else from them. She can dish out plenty of damage regardless of who she is on a team with, but of course, there are some Nightfarer’s who can help increase her output.
The first of these is undoubtedly Scholar, whose entire kit is built around supporting his allies by stacking status effects and debuffs on foes while buffing allies. Using his Analyse Skill and specific Relics, he can boost the attack power of his allies substantially, helping them make light work of enemies.
Another Nightfarer to consider accompanying Undertaker is the agile Duchess, who’s Restage Ability allows her to repeat the past few seconds of damage. This is especially good to use whenever Undertaker uses her Ultimate, as Duchess can pop her Restage and double the damage done by it. With some luck (and decent Skill gauge regeneration), you can pull this off more than once during a boss fight to deal huge chunks of damage. Pair it with another offensive Ultimate such as Wylder or Guardian’s to essentially melt through HP bars.
If melting through enemies HP bars is your thing, then you could also consider the Colossal Weapon-using Raider alongside Undertaker. Combined, this duo can deal exceptional amounts of damage to enemies using their bulky weaponry, but you do ideally want to bring someone with a strong Ultimate along – such as Revenant, Recluse, or Wylder – to quickly revive the pair if things turn awry while hammering away at an enemy.
Best Undertaker Relics and passives in Nightreign
When it comes to Relics and passive effects of the items you find in Nightreign’s Limveld, some are better for other Nightfarer’s than others. In the Undertaker’s instance, there are a few specific Relics and passive effects you ought to look out for to give you an advantage against the upcoming Nightlord.
Recommended Relics, Relic effects, and passive effects for Undertaker are as follows:
| Relic/Passive Effect | Effect | How to Get |
|---|---|---|
| Grand Luminous Scene | A great Relic for duos/trios who wish to boost attack power by as much as possible.
|
Collector Signboard (unlocked following first successful Everdark Sovereign expedition) |
| Activating Ultimate Art increases attack power | Buffs the Undertaker’s attack every time she uses her Ultimate, which she should be using often. | Relics This Relic effect is exclusive to the Undertaker |
| Starting armament deals Holy/Lightning Damage | Applies the chosen element to Undertaker’s starting weapon. Holy and Lightning is the best element for Undertaker to use – other than Physical – thanks to her Faith stat. | Relics |
| Improved Hammer Attack Power | Boosts Attack Power when using Hammers, which is Undertaker’s preferred weapon. | Relics |
| Faith +3 and/or Strength+3 | Boosts Faith and/or Strength stat. Any boosts to Undertaker’s primary stats are essentially a boost to her power. | Relics |
| Character Skill Cooldown Reduction +3 | Reduces the time taken to recharge Undertaker’s Skill gauge, allowing her to use the Trance Skill more. | Relics |
| Holy Attack Power Up/Improved Holy Attack Power | Boosts Undertaker’s Holy Attack Power, if using the Holy element. | Relics, or found on weapons in Limveld |
| Lightning Attack Power Up/Improved Lightning Attack Power | Boosts Undertaker’s Lightning Attack Power, if using the Lightning element. | Relics, or found on weapons in Limveld |
| Improved Physical Attack Power | Improves Undertaker’s Physical Attack Power. | Found on weapons in Limveld |
| Add Holy to Weapon | Adds the Holy element to the selected weapon when held. | Found on weapons in Limveld |
| Improved Chain Attack Finishers | Buffs the concluding attack of Undertaker’s combos. | Found on weapons in Limveld |
| Increased Maximum Stamina | Provides Undertaker with additional Stamina which can never go amiss. | Found on weapons in Limveld |
| Improved Incantations | Improves potency of Incantations, and worth grabbing if you plan on using Lightning or Holy Incantations. | Found on weapons in Limveld |
