Despite saying otherwise, Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond are coming back for Dead or Alive 6: Last Round, but there’s a catch

It’s already been almost three months since we first learned about the revival of Dead or Alive, but there’s been some mixed messaging since then.

Despite stating that Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond would not be returning for Dead or Alive 6: Last Round previously, the SNK guests are indeed back though with a catch.

At Evo Japan 2026, Koei Tecmo released a new trailer for Last Round featuring their King of Fighters 14 collaboration and the newly enhanced Lost Paradise “Oboro” stage.

The catch is, while all other previous characters are included in the standard edition of the rerelease, the KOF fighters are not.

That means players will need to buy DLC packs for Mai and Kula once again along with their five additional costumes.

Koei Tecmo has confirmed that original DOA6 purchases for them will not carry over to Last Round, so it won’t matter if you already bought them before.

The enhanced port is adding new costumes, an improved photo mode and other improvements for the more powerful consoles.

More characters and outfits were said to be on the way too in future updates though they haven’t revealed anything on that front yet.

Koei Tecmo also confirmed that current DoA6 owners will not receive an upgrade (free or paid) for Last Round, so it’ll be counted as a separate title.

As far as we know, there’s been no word on if Last Round includes rollback netcode either, but they did confirm it won’t have crossplay.

Dead or Alive 6: Last Round is scheduled to release on June 25 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
