Deezer will let you know if there’s any AI-generated music in your playlist • Межа
Deezer has launched a tool that lets users of any music streaming service see what percentage of the songs in their playlists were generated by artificial intelligence.
Deezer already labels tracks created using artificial intelligence, but other streaming platforms have been slow to adopt similar measures. As a result, the company has introduced a tool that allows users to check their playlists themselves.
To check your playlist, you need to visit the website, select your music platform (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.), grant access and receive a result, which you can then share on social media.
“By detecting and tagging AI-generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming. No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use,” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer.
The company also conducted a survey, which found that 80% of respondents agree that AI-generated music should be clearly labelled. In comparison, 73% would like to see such labelling introduced on streaming platforms. Meanwhile, 52% believe that fully AI-created songs should not be included in music charts alongside other tracks.
In addition, Deezer reports that more than 75,000 AI-generated tracks are uploaded to the platform daily, accounting for around 44% of total upload volume. The company also says that up to 85% of streams for such content are fraudulent or artificially inflated. Despite this, internal research suggests that 97% of users cannot reliably distinguish AI-generated music from human-produced tracks. Deezer argues that these figures underline the need for automated detection systems and mandatory labelling of AI-generated content across streaming platforms.
