Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal has unveiled a new health-tech concept through his venture Temple, announcing the discovery of a biomarker called “Entropy” that aims to measure the body’s real-time metabolic cost. According to a Moneycontrol report, Goyal described the metric as a way to track the “real-time cost of being alive,” offering a continuous view of how the body expends energy.
As per Goyal, Entropy is a live metric that updates every second and is displayed on Temple’s interface, providing users with a constantly evolving snapshot of their metabolic state. The score ranges from 1 to 250, where lower values indicate deeper states of rest, while higher values correspond to intense physical exertion.
According to the company’s claims, the biomarker can be measured specifically from the temple region of the head. Goyal said this approach allows the device to continuously track how much energy the body is using at any given moment, rather than relying on static or periodic health indicators.
The system is designed to respond dynamically to a wide range of factors that influence metabolism. These include sleep, stress, exercise, meals, caffeine intake, cold exposure, meditation, and strength training. As per Goyal, all these everyday variables affect the body’s energy expenditure, and Entropy captures these fluctuations in real time.
Temple claims that the metric offers a more accurate reflection of metabolic activity compared to traditional indicators like heart rate. According to Goyal, the company benchmarked Entropy against readings from a metabolic cart — a laboratory-grade device used to measure energy expenditure — to validate its effectiveness.

Goyal also noted that the lowest Entropy scores have been recorded among experienced meditators during deep meditation, while the highest readings were observed in elite athletes at peak performance. This, he suggested, demonstrates the metric’s ability to capture a wide spectrum of human physiological states.
However, as highlighted in the report, Temple has not yet disclosed detailed technical documentation or the underlying methodology used to derive the biomarker. The lack of publicly available scientific validation means the claims around Entropy are yet to be independently verified.
The announcement was made via a post on X, where Goyal also invited users to apply for early access to the platform.
