Deepika Padukone’s sister, Anisha Padukone, has opened up about the actress facing depression in the past. Recently, Anisha talked about her sister’s mental health journey and diagnosis and revealed that even she was not ‘aware enough’ of what Deepika was going through. She explained that they were not also living in the same cities back then and therefore she was really off guard. Anisha mentioned that mental health became personal for her around the same time in 2014, when her sister experienced anxiety and depression.

“For me personally, I was not aware enough about the signs and symptoms to be able to understand what she was really going through. The fact that we didn’t live in the same city also didn’t not help, and I am really caught unaware and off guard. Her (Deepika Padukone) journey teaches me that I do not know enough about the subject and need to read and understand more in order to support her in the way that is required,” Anisha Padukone said, as quoted by PTI.

“That is also when my own mental health journey begins. I start taking better care of my mental health. As an athlete, I always focus on physical health to some extent, but not so much on mental health. The more I research and understand this subject, the more I realise that there are millions of people, not just in India but globally, going through similar experiences,” Deepika’s sister added.

Deepika Padukone has always been very vocal about her mental health struggles. She was one of the first Indian celebrities to openly discuss her struggles with clinical depression and anxiety. She founded The Live Love Laugh Foundation in 2015 to create awareness about mental health and reduce social stigma about the same in India. Interestingly, Deepika’s sister, Anisha, is the CEO of this foundation.

Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone recently returned from South Africa, where she wrapped a major shooting schedule for King with Shah Rukh Khan. The film is scheduled for a December 24 release. Besides this, Deepika also has Atlee’s Raaka in her pipeline.
