Declan Rice on Arsenal players getting angry at poor corners

Declan Rice has joked about how he and Bukayo Saka get an earful from their Arsenal teammates when they mess up a set-piece routine.

Halfway through last season, Nicolas Jover noticed that Rice could be brilliant at set pieces, and the midfielder has not looked back since being handed the responsibility.

Speaking about why he’s so good at taking set-pieces, Rice told DAZN: “I think there’s a lot of talk around Arsenal and how many set pieces we score. That is also down to the player who wants to go and head the ball and score goals.

“But for me and Bukayo, the delivery has to be so important. I think if we don’t get the delivery right, trust me, they’ll be really angry.

“So yeah, we try to spend time on it when we can, and it’s just about knowing the zone and putting it in the area more often than not. Now it’s just robotic, you just know where to put the ball.”

Jurrien Timber scored Arsenal’s opener against Bayern from a headed goal as he glanced in Rice’s corner for 1-0.

Even with Gabriel Magalhaes missing due to injury, the Gunners still look like a threat in these situations, which is a real testament to Saka and Rice.
