Manchester United hold strong interest in Semenyo, who has a £65 million release clause in January.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that United made calls at the end of last week to express interest in Semenyo.
United see Semenyo as a key signing, able to play in attack or even at wing-back, and could thrive even with a change in formation. Ruben Amorim has publicly expressed interest in the player.
Manchester United’s big rivals for the transfer are Manchester City, and it could be a two-horse race for Semenyo’s signature.
Antoine Semenyo rejects Tottenham
Transfer insider David Ornstein reports that Semenyo’s situation is accelerating, telling NBC Sports: “I would suspect this resolved sooner rather than later.”
He explains that Semenyo has rejected interest from Tottenham Hotspur, and is currently waiting to decide whether to join City or United.
Ornstein said: “Tottenham Hotspur were very keen, and I’m led to believe we’re prepared to pay a significant salary to Antoine Semenyo, but he politely is focusing on other options, namely, it seems City or United, and he will have to make a decision around that.”
While City can offer a title challenge, United may actually have more of a long-term project in mind, amid doubts over Pep Guardiola’s future.
This could give United an edge, along with the chance to slot straight into the Red Devils’ starting XI.
Ornstein added of United: “They are rebuilding, and they have pull in their own right.”

Alexander Isak injury could change Liverpool stance
Liverpool enquired about Semenyo in November, but have taken a backseat since.
Ornstein speculates whether this could change amid an injury to record signing Alexander Isak, that could sideline him for several months.
He said: “Liverpool is said to have had great admiration for him. They haven’t moved to the same extent so far, to my knowledge.
“But let’s see if anything changes around the Alexander Isak injury, because we’ve just broken the news that Liverpool fear that it is a significant injury to his lower left leg.”
