While getting a sporty makeover, the i20 N Shadow Edition retains the 201 hp, 1.6-litre turbo four petrol engine
Hyundai recently introduced the all-new i20 in Brazil, featuring comprehensive updates. The new model will soon be available in other global markets as well. Before that, Hyundai has launched a special Shadow Edition based on the existing i20 N in Australia. It has to be noted that Hyundai’s N models are much more hardcore and performance-oriented than N Line models and Hyundai only offers i20 N in Australia.
Hyundai i20 N Shadow Edition – What’s new?
To ensure exclusivity, only 100 units of the i20 N Shadow Edition will be available for sale. One of the key highlights is 18-inch flow forged alloy wheels in a striking matte bronze finish. With their spoked design, these wheels lend a classier aesthetic to the hatch. The standard model also has 18-inch wheels, although their design is more in line with contemporary styling trends.
i20 N Shadow Edition also gets new black wheel nuts for a sportier presence. Another distinctive feature is the decals in a black shade at the base of the doors. Hyundai is offering two colour options with the i20 N Shadow Edition – Atlas White and Phantom Black. The standard version has five colour options on offer.
Most other features of the i20 N Shadow Edition are largely the same as the standard variant. Key highlights include a front splitter with red garnish, an aggressive grille with N badging, red brake callipers, Pirelli P-Zero high-performance tyres and chrome tipped exhaust.
Exclusive interior updates
Inside, the i20 N Shadow Edition gets exclusive features such as Alcantara trim on the gear knob and steering wheel. A Performance Blue 12 o’clock marker can also be seen on the steering wheel. Another key update is specially designed rubber floor mats that feature the same tread design as the Pirelli P-Zero tyres used with the hatch. This ensures a more rugged aesthetic for the i20 N Shadow Edition.
Other features are the same as that of the standard model. i20 N in Australia is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has Bluetooth connectivity, built-in satellite navigation system and ‘Sounds of Nature’ ambient audio library. A 10.25-inch instrument cluster has also been provided.
Other highlights include wireless charging, USB C ports, Bluelink connectivity suite, BOSE premium audio system and smart key with push button start. i20 N in Australia has ADAS features via Hyundai SmartSense platform. It includes blind spot collision avoidance assist, high beam assist, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, forward collision avoidance assist and rear cross traffic collision avoidance assist.
Performance, pricing
i20 N in Australia is positioned as a hot hatch, equipped with a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It generates 201 hp and 275 Nm of torque and is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. The hatch features a limited-slip differential and power is sent to the front wheels. The i20 N Shadow Edition uses the same high-performance engine.
For the i20 N Shadow Edition, buyers need to pay AU$41,500 (Rs 27.79 Lakh) for the Atlas White colour variant. The Phantom Black i20 N Shadow Edition is priced at AU$42,095 (Rs 28.15 Lakh). The standard model, which is available in a single variant, is offered at AU$37,500 (Rs 25.08 Lakh).
