Cristiano Ronaldo starts Portugal’s World Cup friendly win vs. Nigeria

Portugal beat Nigeria 2-1 at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, the team’s final friendly before heading to North America for the 2026 World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo started for Roberto Martinez’s side and played the first 65 minutes, coming off to a raucous ovation. Francisco Conceição’s goal in the 75th minute proved to the winner after Nigeria had equalized late in the first half.

Wednesday’s match was the second-ever meeting between the sides, with Portugal winning the only previous encounter 4-0 in Lisbon ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
